About Motion Theory

Motion Theory is an alternative progressive rock band that formed in 2008 at Durham University, England.  Motion Theory also has a base in Cheshire/South Manchester where two of the members are from, but is now based in London.  An EP in 2008 and debut album 'Featherhead' in 2009 promoted with national tours (including supporting Frank Turner, the Holloways and the Telegraphs), gained a solid fanbase across the UK with radio play as far afield as Australia and California.

In 2009 and 2010 Motion Theory entered five songs, including the album title track "Featherhead" into the UK Songwriting Contest - all were ranked as semi-finalists.

In September 2009 the album 'Featherhead' was awarded Unsigned Record of the Week by Manchester Music, and went on to get very positive reviews.  In November 2009 Motion Theory was added to the international Progarchives.com in the Crossover Genre (with bands like Radiohead and Supertramp) and in January 2010 the Manchester Evening News interviewed the band and called them "Manchester's reigning head boys of cerebral heavy rock".  In November 2010 Motion Theory was runner-up in the North West Regional Final of the Breakout Festival.

On 9 July 2011 Motion Theory released a new 5-track EP called 'It's not as dark as that, Friend' - the Manchester Evening News made the launch event
Gig of the Week in Manchester - and within a month BBC Introducing had picked up the first track 'Let's pave over the Sea' and played it on BBC Radio Stoke (the band's local station at the time).

Motion Theory is based in London from September 2011.  The music can be
